02/29/12: Igorrr - Nostril (2010) [Crossover Review 3]

This time around, I picked what oksentaminen listened to and I had to pick out something of his to listen to. We did the months theme a day early to adjust for the leap year and fit in both of our additional rules that we are attempting to abide by.

After hearing a selection of Igorrr in oksentaminen's car I knew immediately that I needed to listen to all of this guy. take a look at oksentaminen's reviews of Nostril and Poisson Soluble. He didn't spend a ton of time giving you info on him and neither will I. Heres what you need to know. Its sometimes metal, sometimes grindcore, always has rad booming electronic beats, baroque is definitely an appropriate word in describing him, and he is fucking rad. This album is unlike anything I've heard and its awesome. Its fast as hell, he'll pummel you with his beats, and he'll confound you with the wide selection of samples and the wide range of genres represented here. I'll get behind oksentaminen's label of "glitchy baroque grindcore metal" This one man project is spectacular and I will most definitely be listening to his other albums ASAP. (060)

i don't have a lot to say about this album other than this is really fucking rad. this is the 3rd and most recent Igorrr release and it's amazing. it continues in the mind blowing genre-mashing tradition of his previous 2 albums (Poisson Soluble and Moisissure, check out my post on Poisson Soluble for more info on the music style). this guy just keeps getting better and i cannot recommend this project enough. can't wait for the new album

and go get Moisissure if you haven't yet!

Igorrr is a 1 man project consisting of Gautier Serre and Poisson Soluble (Soluble Fish) is his first record. i first heard Igorrr a couple years ago when i randomly downloaded his 2nd album Moisissure (Mold) off the Acroplane records site and was instantly hooked. unfortunately at the time Poisson Soluble was only available on vinyl and i was not set up for that. luckily last year Ad Noiseam released a 2 disc set that included Poisson and Moisissure on cd, which i believe is the first time they were widely available in that format. don't know why it's taken me so long to listen to but whatever.

this is some crazy music. i don't even know how to describe what he does here in a manner that will truly convey how bizarre and brilliant Igorrr is. glitchy baroque breakcore metal? these tracks weave so effortlessly through genres that it's amazing. instead of me struggling to describe this just do yourself a favor and go to Acroplane's site and download a copy of Moisissure , it's free (legally of course) and you won't regret it.
