01/28/12: Coaltar of the Deepers - Dog EP (1999)

This is another EP from Japanese band Coaltar of the Deepers from earlier in their career. These recordings definitely display the more shoegaze side of their sound. I enjoyed these songs but not nearly as much as their more metal stuff. They have a more traditional poppy sound on this EP. These songs are so drastically different from the songs on the "penguin EP" that I am kind of shocked these are by the same band. If an american band changed as drastically as Coaltar did from Dog EP to Penguin EP theyd probably lose a lot of their fans. I enjoy how wide their style really is and I am very curious to see where their full-lengths and other EPs head... hopefully the journey continues to be as varied as it has with just these 2 EPs.
