this is Johnny Truant's 3rd and final album, they broke up a couple months after it was released. i got into these guys back in like '06 when i picked up The Repercussions of a Badly Planned Suicide (2002) and In the Library of Horrific Events (2005) based solely on the fact that the band were named after a character from one of my all time favorite books, House of Leaves
these guys got lumped into the whole 'metalcore' thing that was especially huge when they released their first 2 albums but i always thought that was kind of a weak categorization. while they have traits that are often found in the scene, i always thought they were more innovative than all the generic bands that were pouring out of the woodwork. they seemed to bring more influences to the table rather than trying to sound like a slightly different version of an already established band. they also avoided what i think is the WORST trait of metalcore (and a lot of heavy music in general), screaming verses and sung choruses, or a variation of that formula. don't get me wrong, there are a lot of bands that do the transition from screaming to singing quite well (Godflesh, Fear Factory, Between the Buried and Me, Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw, Genghis Tron to name a few) but overall it's just became a generic trait of heavy music.
i really liked this album. it's actually annoying that i enjoyed this album so much since there won't likely be anything else from these guys. they definitely ended their career on a high note.
