Omar Rodriguez Lopez (At The Drive In & The Mars Volta) has been releasing music at a ridiculous rate over the past few years. I believe he is pushing 25 to 30 solo releases and that doesn't include Mars Volta albums. This album was a collaborative album with one of my favorite guitarists John Frusciante. This is O.R.L's 20th solo album and 2 of the songs were released as a single in 2006 with the full album being released as a free download in 2010. Frusciante has worked with Omar and the Mars Volta many times before. He played Moog and guitar on the first few Mars Volta albums and I am fairly certain that Omar has contributed to the last 2 full-length releases by Frusciante.
The whole album is instrumental and both musicians are clearly present in these recordings. I know both of these guys guitar, synth and programming styles and each song is a nice mix of both musicians. The album has a very lo-fi feel due to the fact that its just the 2 of them in a fairly stripped down state. The recordings remind me of early bedroom recorded albums by John Frusciante like "To Record Only Water For Ten Days". Each song is simple but chill and well done. Theres usually some sort of synth with an acoustic and electric guitar. Good album and one of the more universally accessible album releases by Omar Rodriguez Lopez. (063)
