Cymbals Eat Guitars is an indie rock band from Staten Island, New York. The band's name comes from a Lou Reed quote describing the sound of the Velvet Underground. Lenses Alien is their second album but it's the first I have listened to by them. I was doing some research. They gained a following due to their self released debut "Why There Are Mountains". Apparently this album is darker than the first. I mean I guess it has a little bit of a darker dissonant sound at times but is counterpointed by very catchy pop rock moments. They definitely have the indie rock sound at their core but they also get a little proggy and post-hardcore at times. There were a few standout tracks that usually included proggy stylistic shifts that surprise and bring you back into the song. Good album. I will probably give it another listen soon. (037)
