I reviewed "You, You're a History in Rust" way back at the beginning of the project and 90 days later I made it back to them. It is their third full length album. This is an earlier album than the couple I had heard already but their sound is fairly consistent from what I can tell. The songs are unique, rolling instrumental compositions that tend to be fairly down tempo with a steady rhythm. Their music always becomes more interesting and attention grabbing through the use of additional keyboards, percussion, brass instruments, string instruments and even a touch of electronic music and sonic warping. There are a lot of really great moments on this album. The songs often start very minimally and quiet and build to a pretty great cacophony led by the horns. This album also had some very surprising and chill moments that are relaxing and almost atmospheric. I also would have to say that dispite the louder moments on this album, it is a more chill overall sound than their later albums. There was a less heavy use of distortion and just not nearly as loud. That's not a strike against "& Yet & Yet" it just has a little different feel but still is a great listen. They're definitely a post rock band but they have a really interesting sound. I really have yet to dislike an album by these guys and there's not a bad song on this album so I definitely have a couple more by "Do Make Say Think" to pick up. (092)
