Omar Rodriguez Lopez has released a ridiculous amount of solo material when not working with The Mars Volta. I reviewed a random album earlier and it was more on the experimental side as much of his solo work tends to be. In 2010, he released many different albums that were all over the map. Some were very experimental or psychadelic or proggy. He started to also make albums a little more straight forward whether all acoustic, or just pop. I happen to be one of the fans that loves the results. It seems to have something to do with his then girlfriend and now wife, singer, Ximena Sariñana.
She has sang on quite a few albums now and also within a fairly large range of styles. I really dig her voice so I can't complain that she keeps showing up. This is one of the albums she sings on. It is probably one of the more focused and straight forward albums with Omar but its still really great. The song structures are brief and traditional. The compositions are poppy at times but there is still an ever present psychedelic and rock vibe that is somehow driven by the poppy melodies of the singer. Pretty different outing by Rodriguez Lopez but still worth the listen. I wish I understood spanish. (098)
