Altars of Madness is the official debut for Florida's Morbid Angel. they recorded an album called Abominations of Desolation before this but they didn't like it and it remained unreleased until '91.
this is another Earache re-issue and as such has a few goodies. tracks 11 - 13 are bonus tracks. they claim to be remixes but they didn't really sound all that different to me. also included is a dvd with a live show recorded on November 14th 1989 at Nottingham Rock City, as part of the Grind Crusher tour with Carcass (whose set from that night can be seen on the Wake Up and Smell the...Carcass dvd) , Bolt Thrower and Napalm Death. i didn't watch the whole set, i just kinda flipped through it for now but from what i saw it was waaay better than the Carcass dvd. it sounded good and looked like it was actually professionally shot. i'll have to come back to it at some point.
